    Description:
Handwritten Personal and Confidential All-Star Birthday List For Van Johnson's Son Ned - We can all remember our own 21st birthday. Perhaps we had some friends over, and went to a bar, since we could finally drink legally. However, most of us didn't have a guest list that reads like the who's-who of the greatest legends in Hollywood! However, when you are the son of the biggest matinee idol of his day, Van Johnson, and his beloved wife Evie, it's another story! This is an amazing and fascinating true slice of the golden days of Hollywood now long gone! It is Evie's own personal handwritten guest list for her son Ned's big 21st birthday bash. Besides being a "black tie" affair, her notes on who was invited is staggering (and includes their personal phone numbers!). Among the over 200 names (with notes) include , Gene Kelly, Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis, Dick Powell, Kirk Douglas, Cary Grant, Tuesday Weld, Paul Newman and Joanne Woodword, Jack Lemmon, Caesar Romero, Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, Aaron Spelling and Carolyn Jones, Paul Stewart, Lana Turner, Rock Hudson, Martha Raye, Stephen Boyd, John Wayne, Ann-Margret, Peter and Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, Peter Lawford, Hugh O'Brian, director Henry Hathaway, Clifton Webb, Rod Taylor, Jim Backus, and Ann Sothern. The list comes from Van Johnson's Estate and includes a letter of Provenience from his daughter. 9. RARE IMPERIAL DAMASCUS ARTILLERY SWORD.
    Item#:
    21292440
    Category:
    Baseball Cards Rare
    Current Bid:
    $800.00
    Description:
This is sometimes referred to a "Grosser" type sword because of the size of the hilt. This is a Lion's head sword with red glass eyes, a massive Lion's head & the back strap along with the "P" guard are heavily ornate. The obverse of the langet has crossed cannons, identifying this as being worn by an artillery Officer. The reverse langet has a coat of arms, which we have not identified & also has a distinctive bend in towards the blade. The hilt has a shark skin handle, which is sound & intact with a triple brass grip wire. This is a select offering as the blade is a true damascus with a combination of gilted panels & a maiden head damascus pattern. The blade itself has some darkening but overall is in very sound condition. The paneling is very detailed with a quote, which we have roughly translated to mean "For honor and duty until the heart and sword break". The gilting is better than 50% intact. The reverse of the blade is also heavily engraved with separate panels & marked "Eisenhauer Damast-Sthal". This indicates that the blade is indeed Damascus steel. The back strap of the blade identifies the distributor as Eduard Kuhne, Erfurt. Missing the scabbard but does have a high grade original Imperial officer's gold knot. CONDITION: overall very good for what is there. (02-6622/BS). $1500-2500. Session 4 - Extraordinary 4 Day Firearms Auction! Location: Fairfield, ME
