  9. RARE IMPERIAL DAMASCUS ARTILLERY SWORD.
    Item#:
    21292440
    Category:
    Rare Baseball Cards List
    Current Bid:
    $1,100.00
    Description:
This is sometimes referred to a "Grosser" type sword because of the size of the hilt. This is a Lion's head sword with red glass eyes, a massive Lion's head & the back strap along with the "P" guard are heavily ornate. The obverse of the langet has crossed cannons, identifying this as being worn by an artillery Officer. The reverse langet has a coat of arms, which we have not identified & also has a distinctive bend in towards the blade. The hilt has a shark skin handle, which is sound & intact with a triple brass grip wire. This is a select offering as the blade is a true damascus with a combination of gilted panels & a maiden head damascus pattern. The blade itself has some darkening but overall is in very sound condition. The paneling is very detailed with a quote, which we have roughly translated to mean "For honor and duty until the heart and sword break". The gilting is better than 50% intact. The reverse of the blade is also heavily engraved with separate panels & marked "Eisenhauer Damast-Sthal". This indicates that the blade is indeed Damascus steel. The back strap of the blade identifies the distributor as Eduard Kuhne, Erfurt. Missing the scabbard but does have a high grade original Imperial officer's gold knot. CONDITION: overall very good for what is there. (02-6622/BS). $1500-2500. Session 4 - Extraordinary 4 Day Firearms Auction! Location: Fairfield, ME

    Item#:
    21291252
    Category:
    Rare Baseball Cards List
    Current Bid:
    No Bid
    Description:
SABER. Overall 37 3/8". Blade 32". This is a very fine example of classic enlisted light confederate artillery saber displayed at Greene Museum as a Louis Haiman product, which we agree & this is an excellent "as found" example. There is some disagreement whether this is a product of Haiman or Dog River. We believe it to be a product of Haiman but regardless of its mfg., it is a rare & desirable confederate saber. Louis & Elijah Haiman operated a lg. arms manufacturing facility in Columbus, GA. Many Confederate swords previously identified as "Dog River" have actually been attributed to Haiman Bros. CONDITION: blade has a uniform medium gray patina & a couple of minor edge nicks. Blade exhibits an unstopped fuller & scattered file marks. Hilt is brass & very solid. Grip is copper wire wrapped leather. The finish of the leather is mostly flaked however the leather itself is nearly complete. No scabbard. PROVENANCE: From the Greene Museum of Southern History. (02-7013/JS). $3000-5000. Session 3 - Extraordinary 4 Day Firearms Auction! Location: Fairfield, ME
